About Marina

Photography is a conscious choice

Fifteen years ago, I chose to become a wedding photographer. I had graduated with a degree in economics and spent several years working in corporate event planning and design. I learned a great deal there, but I missed knowing the people my work was really for.

I wanted to understand who would live with the result of my time and attention. A wedding gives me that connection. The photographs become part of someone’s home, someone’s history and, eventually, a family’s memory.

I have built my work around destination weddings

Friends and family travel from different places because being there matters to them. They make room in their lives for the journey and come ready to spend real time together.

The celebration begins before the ceremony and continues after it. There are welcome dinners, walks through a new city, long breakfasts the following morning and unhurried meals around the same table. Everyone has time to talk, get to know one another and become comfortable in each other’s company.

Every celebration carries something of where the couple comes from, something of the people who have travelled to be with them and something of the place in which everyone has gathered. No two celebrations ever feel quite the same. This is why, fifteen years later, I still choose to photograph destination weddings.

I take on a considered number of weddings each year, so I can remain closely involved from our first conversation to the final gallery.

Life by the Atlantic

Portugal, like photography, was a conscious choice

Portugal brings together so much of what matters to me, both as a photographer and as a person. Here, I find beauty in the richness of the architecture and in the colours around me: the creamy light along the coast, the blue of the Atlantic, the particular green of the landscape and the bright façades. All of this makes everyday life here intensely visual. I also love the kindness of the people, the pace of life and the food, obviously.

Living here keeps me attentive to colour, atmosphere and the small changes in light that can transform the feeling of a place. Even when I am just driving somewhere to run an errand, I find myself looking around and thinking how beautiful it is here. I haven’t stopped noticing it. It still brings me joy every day.

I am also the mother of a nine-year-old daughter, and watching her grow beside me is one of the greatest pleasures of my life.

Away from weddings, I play padel, sail whenever I can and head to the mountains to snowboard. I also remain very serious about one future plan: a toy poodle.
